We went on the oxen ride, which was kind of fun. The girls had already done it and so waited in the car. The boys had already done it but did it again. Then we saw the print shop, which I thought was cool, and John Taylor’s house and the Browning gunsmith home and shop, which was also cool. Those three buildings were all next to each other. Then we drove through some of the streets just to see the brickyard and other famous stops and ended up at Dave’s store. We bought a few souvenirs and said bye to Dave.
We stopped in Des Moines and toured the capitol. It’s very ornate; quite pretty.

We wanted to see a historic mansion or two, but all that stuff was closed Mondays! We drove through Council Bluffs and Omaha to see the Winter Quarters Temple. It was cool. I got out of the car to take pictures while everyone else, less enthused, waited in the car.
For dinner we stopped at a barbecue grill place in Omaha after driving all over town looking for a restaurant. It should not have been that difficult, but it was. We spent the night at the KOA between Omaha and Lincoln. It was very hot and very humid. I was drenched in sweat before we’d even set up. We left the tent windows open in desperate hope of any ventilation.
