We began the month with the end of school on July 2. That evening we began our big trip to Reno, Colfax, San Mateo, and Cedarville. In spite of half of us getting sick at some time, it was pretty nice. My heat rash finished going away during the trip, and I got over a cold during the first few days. Summer colds are just weird. My keys disappeared in San Mateo and then showed up out of nowhere a week after we got home. Albus and Kryten really missed us and spent several days meowing and purring and kneading their paws. Kryten wasn't a big kneader before.
We got back to Utah on the 16th, which was also when my parents flew out for the weekend. My mom had concerts with the Temple Hill (Oakland) Orchestra at Temple Square and also in Ogden and American Fork. We went to the American Fork concert on Monday night. The concert featured Jenny Oaks Baker (daughter of Dallin H. Oaks) on violin. Mom said she was high or something on cold medicine.

Our ward was involved with the Days of '47 Children's Parade on the 17th, but I blew it off. At 7 a.m. I did not want to get out of bed, and I didn't have any real pioneer costumes for the kids anyway.
Deven turned 11 on the 21st. He picked a Candy Land cake, and later Glenn took him to see "Despicable Me." The kids get to pick an activity with Dad for their birthdays.

Jaelyn hurt her eye in the morning on the 23rd. She accidentally poked it with her thumb. She was in lots of pain, so I took her to the doctor at noon. We waited forty-five minutes to get in to see the doctor. He put some dye in her eye that shows corneal scratches under black light, but there weren’t any there. He was surprised how much it was still hurting her. It didn't hurt as much the next day, and the redness went away after several days.
Saturday evening on the 24th we went to Chris and Elicia’s house for Ivy’s second birthday. We had dinner with some neighbors and a couple of Elicia’s brothers. We had the only kids, though. Elicia decorated a Pooh Bear cake. Back home, when it got dark, we let the kids play with sparklers in the back yard for Pioneer Day. Corin watched and began yelling really loudly. He was super excited. I thought he was scared at first, but he was just getting into it.

The month ended with the ward summer barbecue on the 31st. It was really good despite some wild weather. It rained hard and the blew really hard. The bishop brought an air cannon and shot off candy for the kids.

I'm so glad that you got a picture of Ivy blowing out the candles. We didn't get one of those. The candy cannon sounds like fun. We should plan a get together in Sept.
